Tommey Walker is a creative mastermind and Detroit native that didn’t just build a brand.
He’s the voice behind a beloved slogan:
Detroit Vs Everybody.
In 2012, Walker launched Detroit Vs Everybody, a movement that bridged fashion, identity, art, and resistance.
Slowly, he began blending design with message, culture with conviction, eventually creating a vibrant, minimalist logo that captured the city’s mood in three signature words.
This was more than just a slogan across apparel.
It was a declaration of purpose.
At a time when Detroit was still in the throes of post-bankruptcy, the phrase gave people something to lean on.
From there, the brand slowly grew, eventually being worn by students, local activists, athletes, and even celebrities.
Walker wasn’t satisfied with just making clothing; instead, he turned Detroit Vs Everybody into a licensing empire and cultural touchstone, expanding his initial focus into advocacy work before collaborating with Gucci on their Changemakers campaign and further demonstrating that Detroit’s creativity is just as at home on an international platform.
Tommey Walker’s next-level vision, skilled design work, and second-to-none storytelling skills, paired with his community-minded business model, reflect an entirely new era of Detroit entrepreneurship—one with deep roots in ownership, generational legacy-building, and above all else, authenticity.
Today, he’s still hard at work mentoring rising creatives, advocating for equity in branding, and repping the 313 in all he does.
He’s not a man that has ever waited around for the world to give Detroit the props it deserves.
He simply did the work and allowed the results to speak for themselves.
