Edwin W. Gregory (1901-1955) was an architect who practiced in Detroit during the years when upscale residential enclaves were popping up all around the city β communities that were quickly favored by professionals, civic figures, and industrial executives.
Like many architects who had a hand in shaping Detroit’s most iconic communities, Gregoryβs work centered around popular revival styles β homes that balanced prestige, presence, and comfort.
One example still standing today is the Thomas J. Anketell House at 1745 Iroquois in the Indian Village Historic District, which showcases Gregoryβs mastery of balanced faΓ§ades, quality masonry, and refined detailing.
Though not as widely known as other architects who were commissioned for work in the Indian Village neighborhood, Gregoryβs design catalog adds valuable depth to the village’s rich architectural story β a place where every individually designed home plays a key role in preserving the districtβs historical significance and overall visual harmony.
