Michigan does not license energy auditors, so credentials come from national programs such as BPI and RESNET; the state's Home Energy Rebates program lists BPI Building Analyst, BPI Energy Auditor and RESNET HERS Rater among accepted credentials. DTE Energy and Consumers Energy run their own assessment and rebate programs, which change over time. The federal 25C home improvement credit ended for expenditures after December 31, 2025.

Most of the region gets electricity from DTE Energy, and natural gas comes from DTE Energy or Consumers Energy depending on the area, so rebate eligibility depends on your accounts.
