Build the trip from the operators that run it
Detroit Department of Transportation operates city bus service, while SMART operates regional transit in participating communities. A trip may require one system or a transfer between systems. Use each operator's current route, schedule, fare, and alert information rather than assuming a third-party map reflects a temporary detour or service change.
Confirm the outbound and return trip, transfer location, last available departure, payment method, and stop accessibility. For an appointment, school, job, airport, or time-sensitive event, allow extra time and check alerts again shortly before departure.

Match the road owner to the road problem
Road construction, closures, traffic signals, street maintenance, bridges, and incident response can involve the City of Detroit, a county road agency, or the Michigan Department of Transportation. The street name alone does not establish the responsible agency. Use the current road or project source before reporting a problem.
For a crash, disabled vehicle, hazardous debris, or active danger, move to a safe location and use the appropriate emergency channel. For routine maintenance or project questions, document the location and direction of travel, then contact the agency responsible for that segment.

Check accessibility and rider support before travel
Fixed-route accessibility, paratransit eligibility, stop conditions, mobility-device policies, and rider assistance are operator-specific. Review the current accessibility page and application process before relying on a service. Eligibility for one program does not automatically establish eligibility for another.
Travel training, reduced-fare programs, and advance-booking services may have documentation, reservation, or service-area rules. Confirm those rules directly with the operator. Rebuild Detroit does not book rides, establish eligibility, or control vehicle availability.

Plan around destinations, events, weather, and parking
Large events, construction, snow, flooding, and emergency activity can change routes and parking access. Review the destination's instructions along with transit and road alerts. If driving, confirm whether a lot or structure is public, private, event-controlled, permit-only, or subject to posted restrictions.
Use Rebuild Detroit's city, events, homes, and local-resource pages to understand where you are going, then make the final travel decision with the transportation operator and current public notices. Schedules and service status are time-sensitive and should never be copied into permanent page text.
