Detroit Pet and Animal Resources
Lost pets, stray animals, bites, veterinary emergencies, adoption, pet purchases, wildlife, and neighborhood concerns require different responders. Protect people and animals first, then use Detroit Animal Care and Control, a veterinarian, law enforcement, or the responsible state agency for the actual situation.

Use the right channel for lost, stray, or dangerous animals
Detroit Animal Care and Control publishes current routes to report stray animals, search for a lost pet, view adoptable animals, and reach animal-control services. For an immediate threat to human safety, use 911. Do not approach, corner, transport, or handle an unfamiliar animal when doing so could create a bite, escape, traffic, or disease risk.
For a lost pet, update identification and microchip contacts, search the official shelter source, document the location and time last seen, and verify anyone claiming to have the animal. DACC has warned about lost-pet payment scams. Do not send money or sensitive information to an unverified caller demanding emergency payment.

Separate animal control from veterinary care
A sick, injured, poisoned, or heat-stressed pet needs a veterinary decision. Contact a licensed veterinarian or emergency clinic and describe the species, symptoms, possible exposure, timing, and medications. Animal control, a shelter, a trainer, a directory, and a veterinary provider have different responsibilities and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Keep vaccination, medication, microchip, ownership, and veterinary records current. Ask a clinic about intake, payment, referral, and after-hours instructions before travel. Rebuild Detroit does not diagnose animals, provide emergency veterinary care, verify live appointment availability, or guarantee a provider.

Check adoption and purchase records carefully
Use the official shelter or responsible organization for current adoption availability, application, fees, medical information, return terms, and pickup. An online animal profile can become outdated quickly. Verify the animal and organization in person or through its authenticated process and avoid deposits through an impersonated account.
Michigan MDARD publishes animal-shelter, pet-shop, health-certificate, movement, and disease information. A health certificate, veterinary examination, shelter record, and ownership document serve different purposes. Ask what records accompany the animal and retain them. Rebuild Detroit does not sell, transfer, breed, inspect, or certify animals.

Handle wildlife through species-specific guidance
Wild animals on or near a property are not ordinary pets or automatically eligible for removal. Michigan DNR provides species-specific nuisance-wildlife guidance and information about permitted control businesses. Reduce attractants and secure access points when appropriate, but do not trap, relocate, poison, or handle wildlife without knowing the legal and safety requirements.
For a bite, suspected rabies exposure, injured protected wildlife, or immediate danger, contact the responsible public-health, animal-control, law-enforcement, veterinary, or wildlife authority. Rebuild Detroit does not authorize wildlife removal, issue permits, determine species, or guarantee that a listed company is appropriate for the condition.
