Business Tools for Contractors
Build a complete public profile first, then choose verification, lead, advertising, and hiring tools that match the business. Paid placement and verification are separate, and neither replaces licensing, insurance, or a written customer agreement.
01
Start with an accurate public business record
Claim the existing profile rather than creating a duplicate. Confirm the legal business name, public trade name, service categories, service area, phone, email, website, and authorized account owner. A claimed profile should describe work the business actually performs without using unsupported superlatives or borrowing another company's credentials.
Keep public contact details separate from private account information. Changes to ownership, licensing, insurance, locations, or service categories should be reviewed when they occur. Profile claiming establishes account control; it does not automatically create a verification record or preferred ranking.
02
Understand what verification does and does not mean
Rebuild Detroit's verification policy defines the checks that may be recorded and the limitations of those checks. A verification record is dated factual information, not an endorsement, warranty, background check, inspection of completed work, or promise of a future result.
Licensing obligations depend on the work and the responsible regulator. Verify current Michigan license records at the official source and do not represent a license held by another person or entity as the business's own. Customers should still confirm scope, insurance, permits, pricing, and responsibility before work starts.
03
Use leads and advertising without mixing the disclosures
A lead, sponsored placement, profile subscription, and verification product are different services. Advertising must be labeled, and payment must not change the verification standard. Contractors should review the current product terms, audience, geography, billing, cancellation, and lead-delivery rules before purchasing.
Respond to inquiries with the business identity shown on the profile. Keep consent, opt-out, and contact preferences attached to the correct contact record. Do not treat a directory inquiry as permission for unrelated recurring marketing, and do not promise availability before the business has confirmed staffing and service area.
04
Connect hiring and training to the work offered
Use employer and hiring tools to describe the actual role, work location, schedule, requirements, pay structure, and application path. Career and training pages can explain occupations and pathways, but they do not certify that a candidate is licensed, qualified, or available.
Contractors working across multiple trades should keep job posts, service pages, and public credentials aligned. Rebuild Detroit can connect profiles, careers, schools, and employers while each business remains responsible for lawful hiring, worker classification, safety, supervision, and required credentials.
