Registered Apprenticeships
Registered Apprenticeship is an employer-driven career pathway combining a paid job, structured on-the-job learning, related instruction, progressive wages, and a recognized credential. It is different from a school program, unpaid internship, job-shadow event, or general use of the word apprentice. Verify the employer, sponsor, occupation, and registration.

Confirm that the opportunity is actually registered
Ask for the employer or sponsor name, occupation, registration authority, work location, application process, and responsible contact. Use official apprenticeship search or partner resources to verify the relationship. A contractor, school, or advertisement using apprentice language is not automatically part of a registered program.
Read the current opportunity carefully. Some registered occupations may not have an opening in the desired location, and a registered partner may support several employers or application cycles. Career seekers apply directly to the employer or sponsor and should verify whether applications are currently accepted.

Compare paid work, instruction, and progression
Request the job duties, starting wage, progression schedule, expected work hours, related instruction, program length or competency requirements, mentor structure, credential, and any costs or repayment terms. Understand who employs the apprentice and who provides classroom or technical instruction.
A progressive wage does not mean every participant follows the same timetable; advancement depends on the approved program and demonstrated progress. Confirm overtime, benefits, tools, travel, safety equipment, union or nonunion status when relevant, and what happens if employment or instruction ends early.

Use workforce support without assuming eligibility
Michigan LEO and local Michigan Works agencies provide apprenticeship and workforce resources for career seekers and employers. Services can include navigation, employer connections, or related workforce support, but availability and eligibility vary. Use the responsible local agency for current information.
Employers interested in building a program should define the occupation, on-the-job learning plan, related instruction provider, wage progression, mentoring, and sponsor responsibilities. Federal and state apprenticeship staff can provide technical assistance. Rebuild Detroit does not register a program or approve its standards.

Protect the application and verify promises
Treat the application as a job application. Verify the employer, follow the official process, and do not pay an unverified recruiter for access. Ask whether a school enrollment is required and whether tuition, books, tools, tests, travel, or other costs apply. Preserve written program information.
Rebuild Detroit does not sponsor apprentices, employ participants, verify every opening, award credentials, or guarantee selection or completion. Use the official sources below and confirm time-sensitive openings, wages, schedules, eligibility, and program status directly with the employer, sponsor, and registration authority.
