Permits and licensing in Michigan
Michigan's boiler code applies to boilers in all locations other than residential. Before a boiler or its piping is installed, altered or repaired, a person licensed for that work must obtain a boiler permit, and work may not proceed until it is issued. State boiler installer licenses run from Class 1B for smaller low-pressure boilers up to classes for large power boilers, and a Class P license covers non-boiler external piping to ASME B31.1.
