The story

Jens Jensen, a Danish-American landscape designer, was born in 1860 in near Dybbøl, Duchy of Schleswig (now Denmark) and lived until 1951. Of everything Jensen designed here, Fair Lane leads the list, a building in Dearborn, finished in 1913 and listed on the National Register in 1966.

Beyond the six counties, Jensen designed Humboldt Park in Chicago, Illinois (1877), Rosewood Park in Highland Park, Illinois (1910), and the Harley Clarke Mansion in Evanston, Illinois (1927). A span of 15 years separates Fair Lane (1913) from the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House (1928), the first and last of Jensen's works here. On the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House, Jensen shares credit with Albert Kahn.

On Fair Lane, Jensen shares credit with Frank Lloyd Wright. Both Fair Lane and the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House still stand. The map below reaches Wayne County and Macomb County, wherever Jensen built. Fair Lane at 4901 Evergreen Rd is a good first stop for anyone tracing Jensen's buildings.

Jens Jensen (September 13, 1860, October 1, 1951) was a Danish-American landscape architect.
