The story
Wikidata describes Maginnis & Walsh as an American architectural firm. Maginnis & Walsh's mark on Metro Detroit is the Bishop Gallagher Mansion, a house in Detroit's Palmer Woods, finished in 1928. Built during the boom years when the auto industry turned Detroit into one of the fastest growing cities in America, it has stood for 98 years.
Far from Woodward Avenue, Maginnis & Walsh designed Saint Aidan's Church and Rectory in Brookline, Massachusetts (1850), St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts (1904), and All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart, Iowa (1908). The Bishop Gallagher Mansion still stands at 1880 Wellesley Drive, and the best way to know Maginnis & Walsh is to stand in front of it.
Maginnis & Walsh was a Boston-based architecture firm started by Charles Donagh Maginnis and Timothy Francis Walsh in 1905. It was known for its innovative design of churches in Boston in the first half of the 20th century.
