Grades
How the Rebuild Detroit grade works
One number from 0 to 100 and a letter, for every business and realtor profile. A business cannot pay to remove a complaint or a review.
Report card
- A+ 92 and up
- A 86 and up
- B 70 and up
- C 55 and up
- D 40 and up
- F below 40
Every profile starts at 45, and nobody buys a point.
What moves the score
- Starts at 45 Every business starts here, not accredited. Nobody buys a grade.
- +8 claimed, +17 Verified Verification checks the license or insurance the field calls for. It lifts the score the same day.
- Up to +15 for a complete profile Photos, services, hours, areas, license, about. Upgrades add 3 more.
- Reviews: -12 to +18 Rating quality and volume, with Google reviews counted once the business is verified and connected.
- Complaints pull it down Unanswered public complaints cost up to 30 points, answered but unresolved up to 20. Resolved ones cost 1 each.
What Verified checks, by industry
Every business is graded against the rules for its own kind of work. Progress toward Verified shows on the profile as it happens.
- Licensed trade Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, builders, roofing, siding, concrete and other licensed work: Michigan state license checked and current, liability insurance on file, identity confirmed.
- Field service Landscaping, cleaning, painting, junk removal and other work at your home that Michigan does not license: liability insurance on file, identity confirmed, and reviews carry more weight.
- Licensed professional Agents, lenders, title companies, attorneys and appraisers: state license checked and current (no insurance needed), and complaints weigh more because they handle your money and paperwork.

How reviews and complaints work
- Who can review Customers on Rebuild Detroit (named or anonymous), other businesses, and Google once the business is verified and connected.
- Replies and removals Businesses can reply in public. Rebuild Detroit removes reviews that break its rules and never removes one because a business asked.
- How a complaint runs It goes to the business privately first. Once they respond, or after 14 days without a response, it shows on the profile with the customer's name starred out, the response and the outcome.
- What it does to the grade Handling a complaint well keeps the grade; ignoring one lowers it until it is answered.
Questions
Can a business pay for a better grade?
No. Paid plans add profile features; the grade comes from verification, the profile, reviews and complaints.
How often do grades change?
As things change: a new review, a verified license or an answered complaint moves the score the same day.
