Healthy Michigan Plan basics
The Healthy Michigan Plan is Michigan's Medicaid expansion program. According to the state, you may qualify if you:
- Are 19 to 64 years old and live in Michigan.
- Have income at or below 133% of the federal poverty level.
- Do not qualify for or have Medicare or another Medicaid program, and are not pregnant when you apply.
- Meet new work requirements that the state says begin January 1, 2027. Check the state site to see whether they apply to you.
- Apply online through MI Bridges, call the Michigan Health Care Helpline at 1-855-789-5610, or visit your local MDHHS office.
- Covered services include emergency care, hospital stays, prescriptions, preventive care, and mental health and substance use treatment. Copays may apply.
Healthy home
Your home and your health
Older homes can hide health risks. Census estimates show about 78% of Detroit homes were built before 1960, so paint in many houses may contain lead. Ask about lead paint testing before you sand or scrape, and hire pros for lead abatement when needed. Damp basements can lead to mold, so compare mold testing and basement waterproofing. Radon is another hidden risk; see radon testing and radon mitigation.
