What is there now

Standing

We checked building permits, sales, listings and the city's blight and demolition files on October 25, 2026. Nothing new at this address in the last two years.

The story

The house at 246 E. Ferry Ave went up in 1916, during the boom years when the auto industry turned Detroit into one of the fastest growing cities in America.

It carries the name of Charles Steinberg.

The plans came from Alvin E. Harley, working in the Italian Villa Revival style.

It belongs to East Ferry Avenue, where the city protects the look of every house on the street.

On the city map it falls in Cultural Center.

Most homes like it are lived in, so enjoy it from the sidewalk.
