The story
The Fisher Building opened in 1928, in the years Detroit became the Motor City and built like it meant to stay on top.
Credit the design to Albert Kahn, Albert Kahn Associates, and Joseph Nathaniel French, in the Art Deco style.
The federal government named it a National Historic Landmark in 1989, a status only a few thousand places in the country hold.
It is still open, and still part of daily life in the city.
Go see it at 3011 W. Grand Blvd. Photos never get the scale right.
The Fisher Building is a landmark office tower located at 3011 West Grand Boulevard in the heart of the New Center area of Detroit, Michigan. The ornate 30-story building, completed in 1928, is one of the major works of architect Albert Kahn, and is designed in an Art Deco style, faced with limestone, granite, and several types of marble.
